Principal’s Message

It is with great pleasure we welcome you to the St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Meadowbank school website. 2022 is an extremely exciting time for us at St Michael’s as we celebrate 100 years of meeting the spiritual, educational and pastoral needs of students in the local area.

We take great pride in celebrating our faith through the example and values of Catherine McAuley. Our role as a Catholic school is highly regarded in enhancing faith development, providing a welcoming community and being an integral part of the St Michael’s parish.

Our school has an outstanding reputation for establishing high expectations and achieving excellent academic results. We provide quality education through an excellence in learning and teaching with a strong focus on wellbeing.  At St Michael’s we have a strong belief that student achievement and student wellbeing work in conjunction, not isolation.

Our teaching and support staff are highly skilled, passionate professionals who are committed to ensuring that every student receives the best possible opportunities to reach their full potential.

We are a Newman Selective Gifted Program School, meaning we specialise in catering for gifted students and we also ensure that all students see themselves as leaders, both in their classrooms and in the broader school community.

St Michael’s Catholic Primary School has developed a strong reputation for providing a warm, welcoming environment, educational excellence and strong values.

I look forward to meeting you and your child soon.

St Michael's Catholic Primary School Meadowbank

St Michael's Catholic Primary School MeadowbankHistory
St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Meadowbank opened in 1922 under the leadership of two Sisters of Mercy and the parish priest, Fr Gell. In the early days, classes were held in the church, which was built the year before, requiring classrooms to be packed up on the Friday ready for Sunday Mass.

Over the next 100 years, various building projects funded by the parish and government were undertaken, championed by the local community in need of a quality Catholic education in Meadowbank. In 1995, the Sisters of Mercy announced that they were withdrawing from the leadership of St Michael’s, and from 1996 onwards, the school has been led lay principals.

Charism
Our school is inspired by the work of the Sisters of Mercy and their founder, Catherine McAuley. Their charism is kept alive through our school values, which are based on the hallmarks of a quality Mercy Education:

  • Justice
  • Compassion
  • Faith
  • Respect
  • Service
  • Excellence
  • Hospitality
  • Stewardship

Our eight student leadership teams have the responsibility for keeping one of these Mercy Values alive throughout the school.

Mission
The mission of St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Meadowbank is to provide high quality education, inspired by the actions of Jesus Christ and the traditions of the Sisters of Mercy.

Vision
To achieve this mission we will:

  • provide high quality, equitable education through implementing our KITES pedagogy and providing learning experiences which meet all students’ needs
  • educate children about the actions of Jesus Christ and the traditions of our Catholic faith and
  • embed the values of the mercy tradition into the school life.

St Michael's Catholic Primary School MeadowbankThe community of St Michael’s Catholic Primary School Meadowbank is one of welcome and acceptance with a strong link between school and parish. St Michael’s includes the wider community in its day-to-day activities.

Many opportunities exist for involvement in the life of the school, and contributions from parents, grandparents and other community members in a range of activities are always warmly welcomed.

Our school is also directly involved in supporting those in need in our local community, and our families are keen to ‘give back’ to the community and work in partnership with various charities.
